Who you are dealing with

jhint is made by JSoft, a software studio; the legal entity behind it is Ara Israelyan IE, an individual entrepreneur registered in Armenia (“we”, “us”). These terms govern your use of the app.

Your purchase, however, is not made from us directly. Paddle.com Market Ltd acts as merchant of record: it is the seller of the subscription, it charges you, it handles tax and invoices, and its Buyer Terms apply to that transaction alongside these terms. If the two ever conflict about the payment itself, Paddle’s terms govern the payment.

You must be at least 18 years old to purchase or use jhint.

Your licence

While your subscription is active, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use jhint on the computers your plan covers, and that you use yourself: one computer on Individual, two on Pro. If you move to a plan that covers fewer computers, the extra computers are deactivated at the moment you change plan — the one you change from stays active.

• The licence key is yours alone. Sharing it publicly or selling it is a breach of these terms.
• You can free a slot at any time from Settings → License → Deactivate this Mac.
• Do not decompile, reverse-engineer or modify the app, except where the law expressly allows it.
• Do not work around the licence check, the device limit, or the disclosures the app shows before sending anything externally.

When the subscription ends, the licence ends with it. The app stops unlocking; anything you stored on your own computer stays yours.

Trial, subscription, cancelling

jhint is sold on plans — Individual and Pro — which differ in which AI models the app may run; the pricing page lists what each one includes. Each plan starts with a 7-day free trial with full access to everything that plan includes. A payment method is required to begin it. If you do nothing, the subscription begins automatically when the trial ends and you are charged the price you chose — monthly or yearly — and then at the start of every following period until you cancel.

One trial per customer. The free trial is available once per email address, across all plans: changing plans later does not start a second trial. If you subscribe again with an address that has already used it, the subscription starts immediately and your payment method is charged on the day you subscribe. This is shown before you enter your payment details.

The app shows the trial end date in Settings → License, and Paddle emails it to you when you subscribe.

Changing plan. You can move between plans at any time in the app under Settings → License → Change plan. Plan changes take effect immediately. If you move to a more expensive plan, Paddle calculates the applicable prorated charge and applies credit for the unused portion of your current plan. If you move to a cheaper plan, Paddle calculates the applicable prorated credit and applies it toward your next billing period. Any such credit is maintained by Paddle as an account credit rather than paid out in cash. Before confirming a plan change, you will be shown any amount due immediately and your resulting recurring price. Moving to a plan with fewer AI-provider options disables those providers in jhint; your locally stored settings and credentials remain on your computer and can be used again if you later move back to an eligible plan.

Cancel any time — in the app under Settings → License → Manage subscription, which opens Paddle’s customer portal. Cancelling stops future charges; your licence keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for. Cancelling during the trial means you are never charged.

There is no lifetime licence and no permanently free tier. Prices are shown on the pricing page in your local currency where we support one. We may change prices for future periods, and you will be told before a changed price is charged.

Refunds

14 days, no questions asked. The details are in the Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.

How you may use jhint

jhint is a listening aid: it transcribes what is being said on your own computer and, when you ask, suggests something in reply. It is built for conversations you are part of — calls, meetings, discussions, lectures, webinars, video you are watching.

You must not use it to:

• Gain an unfair advantage in an exam, certification, or any assessment that forbids assistance. The product is not built for this and we do not support it.
• Defeat, evade or interfere with proctoring, invigilation or monitoring software.
• Break the law where you are, including laws on recording and interception.
• Impersonate someone, or pass generated text off as another person’s words in a way that misleads.
• Process other people’s personal data in a way that breaks data-protection law.
• Resell, sublicense or run jhint as a service for others.

We ship no hidden or stealth mode: the app’s window behaves like any other window, and it does not conceal itself from screen sharing or from monitoring software. That is a deliberate design decision, and working around it is a breach of these terms. The Acceptable Use Policy explains this in full.

Recording other people

Whether you may listen to, transcribe or record a conversation is your responsibility, and the answer depends on where you and the other participants are. Some places require that everyone consents; some require that you announce it; some require nothing at all.

jhint does not save audio anywhere and does not keep the transcript by default, but that does not decide the legal question for you. Before you listen, transcribe or save a conversation, make sure you have given any notice and obtained any consent that the law requires of you. Some places treat transcribing or keeping a record of private words the same way they treat recording them.

If you switch saving on, the conversation — including what the other people said — is written to your computer, encrypted, and kept for as long as you chose. That is a decision only you can take: the files stay on your machine, we never receive them and cannot reach them. The app asks you to confirm this before saving is enabled for the first time, and the Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is kept and for how long.

Using jhint where you are not legally permitted to listen, transcribe or keep a record of what is said is a breach of these terms and of the Acceptable Use Policy.

What the model says

Answers come from a language model. They can be wrong, out of date, or confidently invented, and they are not professional advice — not legal, medical, financial or otherwise. Read them as suggestions and check anything that matters before you act on it.

You are responsible for what you do with an answer, including anything you repeat or send on. The app never executes what a model returns; it only shows it to you.

The built-in model

jhint answers with a model running on your own computer unless you choose otherwise. Two parts make that work, and they reach you differently.

The engine is part of the app: llama-server, built from the open-source llama.cpp project and distributed under its MIT licence together with the other open-source components it contains. Their notices ship inside the app — Settings → General → Open Source Licences — and are listed on the Open Source Notices page.

The model weights are not part of the app. When you pick a model, the app downloads its files from Hugging Face, from a fixed repository revision, and verifies them against a checksum before use. We neither train, own nor republish these weights: they are the work of their authors and are used under the licence they publish. jhint only offers models published under Apache-2.0 or MIT, and after the download it writes that licence, the repository and the revision next to the files on your computer.

Downloading a model means downloading a few gigabytes over your connection and keeping them on your disk; the app tells you the size before it starts, and Settings → Model removes a model you no longer want. How well an answer comes out depends on the model you chose and on your computer — a smaller model on a smaller machine gives shorter and plainer answers. We do not promise any particular quality, speed or availability of a third-party model, and a model may be withdrawn from the list if its author stops publishing it.

Searching the web from your computer

You can allow the built-in model to search the web. It is off until you turn it on, and the app explains what that means before you do.

The search runs from your computer, over your connection and from your IP address; we neither perform it nor see it. The query is composed by the model from what it was given. The app then reads only pages that the search returned and that the site’s own rules allow it to read.

Two things follow, and they are yours to carry:

• the search engine’s terms and the law where you are apply to what you do with this feature. We do not bypass any restriction a site or a search engine places on automated access, and we ask you not to either;
• a search engine and the sites you read are third parties. Their availability, their results and what they do with a request are theirs, not ours. We make no promise that this feature will keep working: a search engine may change its terms or its rules at any time, and if it does we may switch the feature off — including in versions already installed.

Model providers

jhint can also work with a local server you run yourself, or with an external provider that you choose and connect with your own account and API key. When you use an external provider, the request goes from your computer straight to that provider — not through us — and their terms and privacy policy govern it, including what they may do with the text you send.

The app tells you which provider is selected and asks for confirmation before the first external send. Their costs are between you and them; our subscription doesn’t include model usage. Where you point jhint at a server of your own, jhint does not provide or control web access for that server: it may have its own network features, governed by its own configuration and its own terms. The Third-Party Provider Disclosure lists every provider and what is sent.

Availability

Speech recognition, the built-in model and the app itself run on your computer and don’t need us to be online — once the files they need have been downloaded. Our licence service does: it issues an access token that keeps working without a connection until the end of the period you have paid for, and for up to seven days at a time, so short outages and time offline don’t interrupt your work.

We don’t promise a particular level of uptime. If our service were unavailable long enough to cost you meaningful time, write to us — we would rather fix it or make it right than have you argue with a paragraph.

Intellectual property

The app, its code, design and the jhint name remain ours. These terms grant you a licence to use the software, not ownership of it. Open-source components are listed in the Open Source Notices and remain under their own licences.

What you say, write, transcribe or receive as an answer is yours. We claim no rights over it and, as the Privacy Policy explains, we never receive it.

Warranties and liability

jhint uses speech-recognition and language-model technology that can make mistakes — especially with accents, noise and overlapping speakers. We do not promise that generated or transcribed content will always be accurate, complete or suitable for a particular decision. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any guarantee, conformity right, remedy or other consumer right that applicable law does not allow us to exclude or limit.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, our aggregate contractual liability arising out of or relating to jhint is limited to the amounts paid for jhint during the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — lost profit, lost opportunity, or the outcome of a conversation. This limit does not apply where liability cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, and it does not reduce any mandatory consumer remedy or statutory right.

Nothing here limits liability for fraud, for intentional misconduct, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Ending the agreement

You can end it any time by cancelling the subscription and uninstalling the app. We may suspend or end your licence if these terms are breached in a serious way — in particular the uses ruled out above. Where the breach can be fixed, we will say what the problem is and give you a chance to fix it first.

If we end your licence for something other than a breach by you, we refund the unused part of what you paid.

Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Armenia, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory rules of your own country, and you may bring proceedings there.

We may update these terms — for example when the product changes. The date at the top tells you the current version; material changes will be announced on the site before they take effect for an existing subscription.
