Licence, trial and devices

How the trial works, what one licence covers, and how to move between computers.

The trial

Seven days on the plan you choose, with everything that plan includes. A payment method is required to start, and cancelling before the end means you are never charged. One trial per email address — changing plans later doesn’t start a second one.

The licence

A key, not an account. It arrives by email after purchase, you paste it into License, and that is the whole procedure — no password to remember, nothing to sign in to.

How many computers a licence covers depends on the plan: Individual covers one, Pro covers two — a laptop and a desktop, or a work machine and a personal one. What else the plans differ in is on Plans.

Moving from Pro to Individual frees the extra slot at the moment you change plan: the computer you change from stays activated, the other one is released, and the change-plan page says so before you confirm. Moving back to Pro lets you activate a second computer again.

Moving to another computer

A computer releases its slot when you erase local data or uninstall jhint on it — see Updating and uninstalling. Then activate the key on the new machine.

Deleting the app is not the same thing and releases nothing. For that case — an old computer you can no longer get to — activation offers to take the place of the computer that has been offline the longest. A computer used within the last day is never taken.

Dragging jhint to the Trash releases nothing; the button on the licence step is called Use this Mac instead.

Lost the key

Lost your key? on the License tab asks for the email address you bought with and sends the key there again.

Cancelling and refunds

Manage subscription on the License tab opens Paddle’s customer portal, where cancellation lives along with cards and invoices. The licence keeps working to the end of the period you paid for. Refund terms are in the Refund policy, and the purchase terms in the Terms of Use.
