Updating and uninstalling

How updates arrive, and how to remove jhint completely.

Updates

jhint checks for updates by itself and installs them when you agree. Check for Updates… on the General tab asks immediately.

Updates are signed and delivered from our own servers. What changed in each version is on the Release notes page.

Uninstalling

Settings → Privacy & data → Uninstall jhint… removes the app together with everything it wrote:

  • settings and the profile;
  • downloaded models — both the answer model and the speech model;
  • stored conversations and their encryption key;
  • your licence key, and this computer’s licence slot, freeing it for another machine.

Keys and tokens live in your operating system’s protected credential storage — Apple Keychain on macOS, Windows Credential Manager on Windows — and are removed from there too.

Dragging jhint to the Bin does not do that: models and settings stay behind, and the licence slot stays taken. Use the button.

Removing jhint from Installed apps in Windows Settings does the same job as the button inside the app: it removes jhint’s application files, local data, downloaded models, saved conversations, settings, stored credentials and jhint’s registry entry, and frees this computer’s licence slot. The uninstall process may leave its temporary uninstall log in the Windows temporary-files location.

Just the data

Erase all local data on the same tab removes conversations, the profile and the licence slot but leaves the app installed — useful when you hand the computer to someone else and want a clean start.
